The origin of this simple carol is uncertain — but it is widely known, often used by carollers to wind up their set (and sometimes as their only offering!), and frequently parodied.

In this arrangement, the traditional structure is augmented by extra repetitions of both verse and refrain, and the melody hops from part to part (which could be fun to draw attention to in performance). Other traditional verses (“Now bring us some figgy pudding”, etc) can be added.

Jennifer Loren Bell's arrangement is easily learned and makes a great closer or encore number.

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year.

Good tidings we bring
To you and your kin.
We wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year.

Optional further verses:

Now bring us some figgy pudding, etc.

We all like our figgy pudding, etc.

We won't go until we get some, etc.
