The carollers promise their host a successful year in extravagant terms - before they move on, perhaps, to repeat the performance at another house.

The recording is by the Magpie Consort of Columbus, OH, directed by Sheena Phillips.

Original Ukrainian words and an English singing translation both provided.

SSA version also available.

Good news!
Good news I bring!
A swallow flew in, started to sing, called out aloud,
Come to the door, hear while I tell what lies in store.
Look in the barn, there in the hay, sweet little lambs, new-born today.
Life will be good, you will do well, plenty to buy, plenty to sell.
You will be rich, your luck is in, nothing to lose, plenty to win.
Yours is a year full of good cheer, all will be well, nothing to fear.
Plenty of grain sitting right here, good-looking wife, happy new year!
Good news I bring!

words by Sheena Phillips, based on Vladimir Morozov's translation. The original Ukrainian words are included in the score.
