Composer's note

This piece depicts the arid and lifeless landscape of the moon. It should sound a little detached, expressing a sense of estrangement, but also mournful - for it is about what the moon lacks.

No air, no mist, no man, no beast.
No water flows from her Sea of Showers,
no trees, no flowers fringe her Lake of Dreams.
No grass grows or clouds shroud her high hills
or deep deserts. No whale blows in her dry Ocean of Storms.
