Composer's note


This beautiful poem by Jean Kenward gives a wonderful sense of time, and the star, suspended as a baby is born and the kings make their journey towards him.  It should go at a gentle camel's pace - and with plenty of space for silent wonder along the way.

in the dark centre 

of this season

the birth occurs

silent and marvellous:

the seers 

move on their journey,

there are gestures 

of wonder, and at midnight

a resting star.

it is amazing 

that the mountains

do not relinquish 

their momentary grandeur.
